Is Lorenzo Quinn's "Building Bridges" sculpture (the huge white hands forming a tunnel) still in Venice? Will it still be there in December?
It is still there.
Probably there forever.
It's my understanding that another set of hands in Venice was removed earlier this year, but I've seen conflicting information on whether or not the 6 hand bridges are still there. I'd like to know too since I'll be there next month and it looks like something unique to see.
I see where Google Maps locates it, but also read that it may be moved to the island of San Servolo. But not when. I thought our grandchildren would like to see it when we are all in Venice.
When I was on the RS Southern Italy tour in June earlier this year, the sculpture was in Vieste. I was under the assumption it was the original one from Venice that had been moved to Vieste. But I may be wrong.
Looks like it is (or was?) in Vieste from June to mid-September, 2023, but then where?
I can't find any updated information on Lorenzo Quinn's website. But it includes phone number, email and Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. Maybe you can reach out through one of these channels?

Thanks, Mary --- I did look at his website and Facebook page before asking here, and I could email him, I guess. But then I thought, wouldn't an important piece of information (such as where a famous sculpture is going to be placed) already be on his website and Facebook page, if he knew? But maybe that was just my brain talking me out of doing something I am always reluctant to do, i.e. bother people by contacting them. Yeah, that would be the sensible thing to do, though....
The simple answer is that Building Bridges is still there in the Arsenale Nord. Get a vaporetto to Bacini Nord and walk.
Nancy, I'll be there in late October. I'm happy to let you know if it's there when I visit if that would help.
I just checked Google reviews. Someone posted photos yesterday. So it looks like it's still there.
I'm in Vieste now and went to see them yesterday evening. Thanks for the info. Apparently yesterday was the last day....(I have my doubts....)
Looks like there are two of these sculptures --- thanks, everyone, for helping to clear this up for me! I just didn't want to inflict a wild good chase on my grandchildren during our too-brief time in Venice.
I just came to say that I saw a post on a FB group in which a lady who is there currently posted pictures of this, so assuming she's legitimate (I always have a touch of skepticism when it comes to FB), they are indeed there and I'm planning to see them next month!
The hands on the Grand Canal were removed years ago. The Building Bridges hands are still in place.
Full stop.
