looking to hire private guide

I am bringing a group of teenagers (approximately 30 people) to Europe this summer and I need to hire a guide for about 4 hours in Rome.

We have a limited budget and therefore would like to pay someone by the hour. I am looking for recommendations of tour guides that provide this service at a reasonable rate.

Unfortunately the large companies that offer tours are way out of our budget. Please do not suggest these companies as I have already spent hours emailing and researching them. I am looking for an individual that offers this service.

I already contacted Francesca Caruso but she is booked.

Thank you! :)

Sonia Tavoletta is a colleague of Francesca's. Did she mention her? Did a great job for us last year. Email soniatav@aliceposta.it. The problem might be hearing for 30 people. Private guides usually do a few people and can talk to you without headsets and mic. You might ask Sonia about this. Maybe you will need two or three guides and divide up your group?

I can also recommend Tony Polzer. He has a company Three Millenia Tours but he might work out something for you or have ideas. I trust him enormously as he has done a great job for us and for others we've referred.

Our guides often rent these Whisper Systems (or similar mic and headset offers) for our groups. Inside some museums, they may be required for groups. The guide you hire will probably have a preference or a contact, if they feel that mics are necessary.

In the Vatican, any group over 6 requires headsets... and lately they have been cracking down on this requirement. In other sites, the enforcement of any headset policy (and they are different by venue) is pretty much hit and miss... but not the Vatican (hey, different country!).
