Looking to Break up train ride between Venic and the Cinca Terra

I am in the early stages of planning a two week family trip to Italy for me, my wife and two teenage sons. Anyone have any suggestions for breaking up the train ride between Vencie and the Cinca Terra other than staying over in Milan? I was originally looking at Lake Cuomo but it looks like it adds more travel time and transfers than we would like to add.

Thanks,

Pat

Personally, I’d take the route Venezia-Firenze-La Spezia at 9:26 am. It’s only 5 hours. Grab sandwiches in Venice before you board the train and enjoy the ride by napping, reading, watching a movie in your device, or absorbing the scenery. The first 2+ hours are on a very nice highs-speed train. From La Spezia it is a short ride to the village of your choice.

If you really want to stopover, Firenze is a convenient option and you’d have half-a-day to do something.

We have stopped in Lucca. However I agree with the other poster that Florence is the most direct.

It looks like your train route could involve a change in either Verona or Milano. Three suggestions that keep you right on that same general route are Verona itself , Iseo, or Bergamo. I think that teenagers would like all of these places. Verona has lots to see and do. Iseo is a pretty lakeside town. Lake Iseo is a smaller, lesser touristed lake between Lake Garda and Lake Como. Bergamo has an upper and lower city. The Città Alta is the older, historical center.

Do you mean as an overnight stop or just as a short visit?

If not overnight you will want to store your luggage wherever you stop

Honestly since it’s such a long haul I would just want to get it over with
Take Laurel’s advice on Venice-Florence-La Spezia route

( note spelling
Cinque Terre, Como)

Yep, I'd opt for this too. No need for a break in between.

Agree with the others - no stop (and bring food). Our two teens loved the train rides - listening to music and taking in the scenery.

hey hey Pat (pfd919598)
when are you planning this family trip, what other cities are you visiting, are you flying into venice or milan round trip or multi-city?
are you wanting to spend time on a lake, if so look at lake iseo. lake garda or lake maggiore, less crowded than so many wanting to go to lake como.
what is the family's interests and get your boys involved with some research. i'm sure they will be put their 2 cents in. lots of things to see and do. good luck
