I will be treating my sister (her 60th b-day) to a vacation in Venice and Como in early September. I am searching for an exceptional dining experience in either place. Any suggestions?
What constitutes "exceptional" for your sister? Is food more important than ambience? Italians flock to the good food, no matter the setting, while some travelers are enticed by ambience more than food: a canal or lake view, for example.
When you say "Como" do you mean the town of Como or are you staying elsewhere on the lake?
If you like seafood, it would be hard to top Alle Testiere in Venice for quality. We could not get in (trying a week in advance) but my sister said it was very very good. Reserve at least two weeks in advance. No canal views.
For good food and wonderful ambiance on Lake Como, we loved the terrace restaurant at Albergo Milano. The restaurant has a different name, but I can't remember just now.
www.osteriaallatestiere.it is also Rick's top "splurge" pick in Venice. If you're interested in Michelin ratings, they do share those online at www.viamichelin.com. In a more expensive price range, Al Covo is traditionally a well-reviewed restaurant in Venice.
An extra a was put in the above restaurant site. Its, http://www.osterialletestiere.it/Testiere/Benvenuto.html, Osteria alle Testiere.
Hi Laurel,
Staying in the town of Como. Ideally, good food with a nice ambiance but first is good food.
Thanks to all for the recommendations.
