Looking for suggestions on Ground Transportation around Grossetto

Ciao! First time travelling to Italy and picked a B&B in Pari, Grossetto to "get away". We'd like to take a day trip out to Montepulciano one day and Siena another. We will not be renting a car so I am looking for suggestions as to best ground transportation options including private car/driver or bus or train. Here are the legs we are looking for help with:

Arrival Day - Rome to the B & B in Pari, Grossetto
Day trip Pari to Montepulciano
Day trip Pari to Siena
Transfer Pari to Assisi

Grazie!

You can certainly find a car service that can take you from Rome airport to Pari for 400 or 500€, A cheaper option would be the train to Grosseto, then a taxi.. However it is very unlikely they have a car service in the area. They would need to drive all the way from Grosseto. The cost of what you intend to do, assuming you can find such service, would be exorbitant,

If you want to spend your vacation in a rural setting like the Maremma area, a rental car is really a must. If you know how to drive at home, you can do it just as easily there.

A transfer Rome to Pari will NOT cost you 400-500Eur! You are probably looking at around 70-80 Eur for a +2hrs journey. But not with traditional taxis. You need to use what in Italy is called "Noleggio con conducente", or a private hire driver (in UK). As your driver will probably be in the Grosseto area, he should be able to book him for the other journeys too without it being too pricey.

Trains in Italy are surely a much cheaper option, but Italian trains are not reliable, particularly when travelling from/to small cities and I would not recommend it if your stay isn't very long.

I travel to Italy often and when I travel for work I don't usually have a car. I use online services such as https://classgo.com/ or https://ww.uber.com that are reliable, significantly cheaper than normal taxis and use much nicer cars. Uber is online-only, so if you prefer being able to easily speak to someone, for example to ask for information/price, I'd go with the classgo option. Enjoy yor trip !

I know where Pari is.
Two hours are not enough from Rome. In two hours you may make it to Grosseto, but then you need an additional 50km because Pari it's half way between Grosseto and Siena. So 2h45min is more likely.

The driving time (2h45min) is more than Rome to Naples, and private transfers between Rome and Naples are not 80€, it's at least 4 times as much. A private transfer from Rome to Civitavecchia alone (Civitavecchia is 50 min from Rome) is 120€, if you go from the airport, which is bit closer, it's 110€. A taxi from Milan to Malpensa (50km or 45min) is 90€.

These are the prices, everything else you might hear is fake news. Uber doesn't even operate in Grosseto.

If you can find a private driver that takes you from Rome to Pari for 80€, I'd like to have the name.

Ma de che stamo a parlà Francesco?

Hi Roberto, the hourly price for classgo is Eur 35, so you should stay under 100Eur for 2h45min..
On the other hand, apologies, I forgot to mention that uber only operates in major cities. There's plenty of ncc services anyway, those are just the ones I use when travelling for work. Hope this helps

Interesting. Website for aforementioned service is still in development (note "test" and "lorem ipsum" copy under "about"), doesn't provide estimates when point-to-point is entered (Pari isn't even in the dropdown), and has zero reviews out there. In fact, it has almost no internet presence at all.

Sorry, Francesco, but it doesn't smell right to me. I personally wouldn't touch it.

Thank you all for the input. What ground transportation is available to Montepulciano from Rome? Would that be better?

I reiterate that the most convenient way to visit rural areas in Tuscany is with a rental car. Driving in Italy's countryside is not difficult at all. Just make sure you don't enter the historical centers of towns which are generally closed to traffic, except for residents with permit. If you drive at home, you will have no problem driving there. Just pick up your car away from large city centers like Rome. If you make that choice, ask us for advice later.

Regarding getting to Montepulciano by public transportation from Rome, that is easier.
You can take a train to CHIUSI, just down the hill from Montepulciano. Then from Chiusi to the town of Montepulciano there are buses. The problem is trying to do day trips to small towns. Without a car is not as efficient. But it's doable. So if you choose accommodations in the town of Montepulciano, you can probably survive without a car.

Kathy the website is pretty new, but I have been using them for a long time. I just used to call. As I said, there are loads of NCC services out there, the most important thing is to make sure to agree on a hourly price if the service is not conventional (for example Malpensa to Milan) . These guys speak good English, so I think it helps. The number is there, worth giving them a ring.

I agree with Roberto that the most beautiful way to see Italy's countryside is by driving yourself though. Although, please pay close attention to ZTL signs as fines are always awaiting when driving in Italy
