Hello - I'm traveling to Rome solo, for the month of June 2016 and am interested in taking some casual art classes/ workshops - Something that is appropriate for beginners. I'll be staying in an apartment in the Trastevere and am open to any type of art class painting, drawing, ceramics, mosaic someone that could take me around town with a small group would be great. I'm also looking for any tips for a woman traveling alone in Rome for a month. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
My husband and I took a half day Sketching Rome class from Kelly Medford--we really enjoyed it! http://www.kellymedford.com/workshops/
There are lots of women traveling solo in Roma, no different than being solo in any city. Waiters are used to women dining alone. You will meet people more easily as a solo traveler.
I traveled to Italy solo last year and perhaps the best day of my trip was the day that I did the "one day short course" mosaics class at Koko Mosaico in Ravenna. A young couple run the gallery and teach the classes; turns out I was the only student that day, and so I had a fabulous intro-to-mosaics class one-on-one with Arianna Gallo, who is funny, intuitive, kind, a great teacher, and a fabulous mosaics artist, too. If you are inclined to leave Rome for a day or two while you are there, you may want to consider a one-day or longer mosaics course in Ravenna. kokomosaico.com has the info. (And fyi: I stayed at Hotel Centrale Byron, which was wonderfully located, clean, good a/c, and about a 10-minute walk from the gallery).
Thanks for the tips!
