I will be taking a Rick Steves tour of Sicily in February but would like to stay longer in the Taormina area. Anyone have a good hotel to recommend there?
Note that the star system reflects specific amenities, like elevators, etc., and are not qualitative evaluations. I've stayed in some * and ** places that were perfectly fine.
I stayed at the Casa Cuseni and would gladly do so again. Here's my review - see if it meets your needs: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy-reviews/taormina-accommodation-casa-cuseni
We really enjoyed Hotel Villa Schuler, whose terrace overlooked the Ionian Sea, but alas, it is closed in February.
Susan, give www.booking.com a try. You can sort the hotels by price and other amenities and read lots of reviews (more than you'll find here). I did not stay in either city overnight but have visited as day trips. Taormina definitely stands out as being one of the most expensive I've been to in Sicily - it is touristy and "postcard perfect" due to its perch on a cliff and wonderful views. I think in February hopefully prices will be down.
Susan, We are staying in the UNA Palace Hotel in Sept. You can have breakfast on the rooftop with a view of Etna in the distance. If you are willing to pay in advance, good rates are offered. It is a four-star.
Check out B&B Villa Barone. Beautiful b&b with awesome views of Mt. Etna. Lovely accommodations and wonderful breakfast. Shuttle available into town. Carmen will also book tours for you. Day trip to Etna and Agrigento a must. We loved it.
Hi Susan,
My wife and I have used www.tripadvisor.com as a very good guide for hotels. You need to read the reviews carefully and ensure there are more than 40 or so reviews for reliability. We travel widely throughout Europe and have had success on most occasions.
I stayed in Albergo Victoria in Taormina right on the main street in the center of town - very small town and great for walking anywhere.
You can find photos and more info on this hotel on tripadvisor.com
We had a room upstairs with a window that opened up right onto the main street - great for people watching etc.
Two years ago we spent a week in Taormina at the really nice B&B Sara, which also offers a garage if you have a car. Our room had a balcony overlooking Mt. Etna and the sea. During the day the views were beautiful and at night the views were STUNNING. Elena is a gracious hostess and we will stay here again when we return.
Buon viaggio,
