Partway into a five week trip through Italy. We have a gap between Stays in La Spezia and the Amalfi and are looking for a quiet “crash place”. Not concerned with attractions. Rather, nice town. Good access to stores for wine and groceries, etc. All suggestions appreciated.

Presume you're using public transit, so Montepulciano might fit the bill. Limited attractions, which forces me to to relax and enjoy the town. I've never seen it overrun with tourists and there's a good grocery store near the bus station. Contucci winery has a store near the Duomo where you can purchase their wines at very reasonable prices. Also just enough nice restaurants for a few days without repeating.
