Hello, my wife and I are traveling to Italy for the first time this September and we are got a bit overwhelmed looking at Rome, so we are hoping to get some neighborhood recommendations. We generally prefer less touristy/crowded, quieter areas with at least some residential feel. We liked staying in the 7th in Paris and Kensington and Chiswick in London. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Take a look at the Prati district. We've stayed on that one and enjoyed it very much. It's removed from most of the big tourist attractions but still walkable to them if you enjoy a ramble - sometimes a longish one - on your feet. There is bus and metro service to that area too.
Another vote for the Prati area. We have stayed there our last 2 trips to Rome and would again. Locals, good restaurants, and an easy walk or bus ride to the tourist zones.
Rome, also look at Monti and Travestere neighborhoods. .
Thanks you for the recommendations. Can you also recommend any specific hotels/places in Prati or Monti?
We stayed at Hotel Isa on via Cicerone in Prati on our last visit. We would stay there again.
First trip in 2019, we stayed near the Pantheon. The hotel is no longer in business. We loved the area; our hotel was on a short quiet street. Close to sightseeing and walking distance to most. This year I am staying at a monastery next to Largo di Torre Argentina. I chose it for location (and price), close to sights.
