I am attending a wedding in Lucca end of Sept and am looking for a multi day guided tour 4-5 days since I am female traveling alone. I want to explore Cinque Terre and then Pompeii and amalfi. I am also considering Florence . HELP! Not sure if venturing on my own is a good option
Where are you flying home from? This could make a big difference as to what would be recommend.
Florence is probably your best bet. Lots of day tours from there.
Here is one reasonable provider.
Thank you , my idea was to make my way to Naples then fly back to US from there. my only concern is traveling alone as a woman and not speaking Italian. Is it easy to get around?
Have you traveled to Italy before?
The trip to the Cinque Terre is easy. Take the bus from Lucca
To La Spezia Centrale then transfer to the regional train to Riomaggori. Travel to the other
Villages by ferry or train.
It's a six+ hour trip from La Spezia Centrale-Napoli Centrale. Naples is a wonderful, chaotic, overpowering city and one needs to do a lot of homework
To truly enjoy it. I'm not aware of any 4-5 days tours. There are however day tours to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast.
The Italians are very accustomed to hosting non-Italian-speaking tourists. There's no reason you can't travel in your own. It's true that some folks find Naples sort of overwhelming, so it's worth considering what would be the lowest-stress way to reach the Amalfi area.
You don't have a lot of time and are proposing to spend nearly all of it in, or getting to, cute coastal towns. Thay are lovely but time-consuming to reach and will probably still be touridt-thronged in September. One disadvantage of a tour is that you really can't decide to take a day-trip to a quieter inland destination.
I don't think what you are looking for exists. You want an English-language escorted tour, but only for 5 days, starting from a small city in one region, going to very small coastal towns in one region, then to coastal towns in another region (Italy is VERY regional).
If you do want to see both the Cinque Terre and Pompeii/Amalfi, you will probably need to do it yourself. You will also need to allow much of a day to get between them. Not speaking Italian is not a problem, as these are very heavily visited areas and they are quite used to visitors who speak only English. But with only 4-5 days, you should probably stick to sights closer to Lucca - Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Siena, San Gimignano, etc. And don't overlook Lucca itself - lovely!
Great Advice!! Will really look at what Is possible!! Maybe sticking to Lucca/Florence region is a better idea. I know there is a high speed train that goes to Naples. I need to logistically figure it out.
anyone have other reliable tour companies? Thanks for Get your guide, lot of great options on that. Has anyone used Ciaoflorence or Viator? Thanks for all suggestions
40 million foreigners travel to Italy every year. Most don't speak a word of Italian. So most Italians have learned to speak English, especially those who come in contact with tourists. You will also find lots of women walking and traveling alone in Italy. Italian customs allow women to go around without a male relative, many in mini-skirts or shorts so short that you can see their chicks (very fashionable to show your chicks this year). They are even allowed to drive on their own.
Take train from Lucca to any town at the Cinque Terre.
1.5 hours and you are there. Easy. You can visit the Cinque Terre in a day, from morn to evening, although if you can spare a night there you will enjoy it more.
Florence (Firenze) is also only one hour away from Lucca by train. A couple days (3 nights) in Florence are necessary to see the city. If you had more time you can also take day trips to Siena, and other lovely Tuscan places, all from Florence.
If you want to see Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, then you need to forget the rest, because from Lucca it takes the best part of a day to get there. You need a train to Firenze then one to Napoli (Naples) and another commuter train to Pompeii. From Pompeii to the Amalfi Coast, you need a train to Sorrento, then a bus. I wouldn't go there for less than 4 nights.

The only guided multi-day tours I've ever seen advertised in Florence are targeted at college students studying abroad and only last a couple of days, usually over a weekend. While doing something on your own might seem intimidating, it's actually very easy. Lots of single travelers do it every year.
Both getyourguide and Caio Florence have escorted day trips from Naples. Here is a good introduction on how to do some on your own.

Edit: forgot about Mondo Tours which is going to be the best.
Thanks for the information!! I received info that I never knew about!! Looking forward to planning

For Florence any more recommendations for hotels great for solo travelers ?
Thirty minutes away by train is Montecatini Terme/Alto.
It's a beautiful town with fountains everywhere. Spa treatments are also available. In the old town (Alto) reached by funicular, is the midieval center.
