Looking for hotels in Rome and Venice in September

Stayed at these on an RS tour and would use them again

moderately priced hotels?

Really should tell the forum a $$ range, rather than having us guess what 'moderately priced' means

Rome -- we loved Hotel Smeraldo. We never used public transportation and walked to Vatican, Colosseum, Pantheon, etc.
Venice -- Hotel Gardena, across the canal from Santa Lucia train station and about 100 meters along the canal. It's easily walkable and on a small side canal. Easy to get to everything via the vaparettos. Check out Hotel Molino Stucky Hilton Hotel roof top bar for the best views across the city. Good luck.

Rome: Hotel Navona. One block from Piazza Navona. Walking distance to everything.

Venice: Hotel Dalla Mora. In the Santa Croce District.

Make sure wherever you stay has air conditioning.
