I am flying into Zurich in early September where I will stay for a few days and then I need to meet up with a group at the Malpensa Airport in Milan by noon on 7 Sept. rather than stay at the super expensive Sheraton at the airport, I was hoping to find decent lodging for the night before that was near a train station that has a train that goes regularly to the airport. Does anyone know of any specific place or even area where this might be possible? I see in posts from 3 years ago that Hotel Berna is recommended but it is quite expensive - so any recommendations would be welcome. thank you,
I stayed at the First Hotel near Malpensa before an early morning flight. They run a regular shuttle to the airport and there’s a good restaurant next door to the hotel. At the time, its rates were quite reasonable. Here’s the website : https://www.firsthotel.it/en/
Also, looking at Google maps, I found many hotels located near the airport that you could check out.
How are you getting from Zurich to Milan? You could depart Zurich at 7:30 am and arrive at Maplensa at 11:40 am with a single connection in Lugano. Or maybe just stay at a hotel near Malpensa that has shuttle service. There re several.
If you're willing to go into Milan - In May I stayed at B&B Hotel Milano Aosta for one night. I had an early flight out of Malpensa and caught a bus. It was a 3 minute walk across the square to where the buses depart- on the north-west side of the train station so a train would have been very easy as well.
The hotel was basic but perfect for what I needed. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast is on the top floor over looking the station and was delightful. I would definitely recommend
Check out booking.com for hotels around Malpensa. There should be several with shuttles. Prices seem fairly high in Milan for your date.
If could tell us your method of transportation to Milan it would be helpful.
I am traveling by train from Zurich. And expect to use train and bus for most of my trip.
I stay at the Moxy at Malpensa when I need to be at that airport. It’s across the street from the airport.
Just in case, there are hourly trains Biasca-Bellinzona-Lugano-Mendrisio-Varese-Malpensa. (Just pay attention that the train has also cars to Como, the train is split in Mendrisio). This offers alternatives like going directly by train from Zurich or overnighting in Lugano.
Yes. We stayed at StarHotel in Saronno, which is a stop near the airport on the Malpensa Express. Walk to the train station in just a few minutes. Several years ago, it was reasonably priced - I haven't checked lately.

You could stay anywhere in Milan, including the train station neighborhood where you'll be arriving from Zurich so that you don't have to take local transit to/from the train station.
The Trenord train service on the MXP2 Malpensa - Milano Centrale Airport line connects Malpensa to Milano Centrale in approximately 50 minutes. Trains depart every 30 minutes

thank you so much everyone, I will be following up on your advice. I definitely have enough to go on right now.
We stayed at the hotel Berna in May, 2025, and used credit card rewards points. The hotel accepts points from several programs. Would this help you with the cost? The staff , location, and breakfast are all great! Have a great trip.
