I am thinking of 3 nights in Lucca the first week of April.
You want to be inside the walls. We enjoyed staying at Palazzo Alexander which offers parking nearby.
B&B Arena Di Lucca. Right in the Anfiteatro. Built into the original walls of the Roman theater.
We stayed at La Romea B&B. Great location in the center of town, easy access to shopping and restaurants. Gaia took excellent care of us with great recommendations of eating and sightseeing.
Make sure to stay inside the walls. It's a plus if you can find a place that offers the free use of bikes. One of our favorite Italian towns.
I've been to Lucca 4 times and always stay with relatives, but if I ever have to pay for accommodation, I'm definitely staying within the walls, 100% (or within a 5 min walk if I book too late).
We are booked at La Boheme in April found on booking.com looks really nice relatively inexpensive and inside the walls.
I stayed at the Palazzo Alexander for a week a couple of years ago. Great location easy walking distance to the center. Quaint and clean. Very friendly owner. Also close to a laundromat. As a single traveler, I felt very comfortable there. Enjoy your trip. I found Lucca to be a great base for travel around the region and loved the city...
We stayed at Antica Corte dei Principi a few years ago, loved the location. Very nice staff and great breakfast, reasonable price.
