I have an upcoming trip to Italy in June and would like to visit a couple of the smaller towns south of Florence. I am thinking that I might could save some money by staying in a smaller town rather then Florence. I am not planning on renting a car so hoping I can find somewhere close to the train station. Looking for hotel suggestions and possible day trips. One trip I am interested in is checking out the Ferrari sites.

spaulus69 - You can checkout Bagno a Ripoli for a possible base, It's a suburb of Florence. You have the flexibility to take direct trains from Florence to Bologna where you can visit the Ferrari museum on a day trip.
