Looking for through hiking routes, inn to inn, that will be good in March in Italy.
Will appreciate any suggestions.
Recently did a similar 2 week trip in England's Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
7 to 10 miles a day would be perfect. Thanks
March is a tad too early for hiking between Refugios in the Dolomites. So not sure what “inn to inn” hiking you’d be referring to.
I used to dream of some of these (https://www.onfootholidays.co.uk/search-routes/) until I realised that I cannot walk hills anymore :-(
The historic pilgrim route called the Via Francigena can be used to create a trip. It has good descriptions of trail sections and info on daily accommodation. For March I would suggest looking to Tuscany and further south. https://viefrancigene.org/en/home
I would go south that time of year. Hiking when it's cold and wet is not fun.
Have a look at this website for some ideas - you needn't actually use them - but they have some great itineraries to give you some ideas to plan your own trip.

Cammino del Salento in Puglia could be good, we did some bits last week.
But you would need to be experienced hikers because signing isn't always perfect
There is a route between Bologna and Florence. It 82 miles and has a lot of up an down but sounds awesome. I haven't seriously looked into the logistics of it but if sounds like what you're looking for there are resources: https://en.viadeglidei.it/

The good news is that the fast train from Florence to Bologna is only 30 minutes so you could easily stash your stuff in Florence, get on the train and head off on the trail the same day. The bad news is you'll know your 6 days hike can be done in 30 minutes. ;)
Whatever you choose have fun!
