Taking ideas for a day trip from our home base in Siena (will have a car, but willing to travel by bus or train as well) for under the radar towns within an hour or so away. As far as interests go: architecture, food, easy walk around town (not looking for wineries, but some sort of food/olive oil production tour would be up our alley). Go!
Head toward Pienza, cheese making here. Farm tours, cooking classes, restaurant.

Cute, unique towns nearby.
Castiglione d'Orcia and Bango Vignoni.
Thanks, that's kind of already included in the Heart of Tuscany drive that we plan to do.
Confession time. I have not read the RS guidebook recently for this area.
BUT I really loved Castellina in Chianti. Great restaurants. Wonderful Etruscan site. Very picturesque.
Thanks for the suggestion. I am saving this info for my trip in 2019
