There are so many options and tour companies offering these services. I am looking for the best deal for pre reserved ticket to enter the Coloseum and also Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel. Any suggestions?

For colosseum just get the ticket and underground/3rd ring tour from them - that was cheap and a great tour!

I tried to by a coliseum ticket at the web site recommended - also recommended in Steves' Rome book - but ran into difficulty. You must select a nationality from a list of a hundred or so countries. But USA is not among them!? Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Can you buy tickets in advance online and use them whenever you want, or do we need to specify a date/time when we buy them?

The Colosseum yes but the site states they are good through Dec 2015, the Vatican requires specific date and time.

Entry tickets for the colosseum are good through the end of the year for any date and time and can be purchased at any time. Tours can be purchased up to two months in advance and are date and time specific.
For the Vatican museums you can only book tours or tickets 60 days in advance. Both are date and time specific.
