Can anyone recommend an apartment with a kitchen as a home base for exploring the Amalfi coast and Pompeii? I am thinking Sorrento would be a good home base, am I right?

Sorrento would be a good base for exploring the Amalfi Coast. I'd start by checking apartment options on www.vrbo.com.

We absolultey loved using Sorrento as our base for exploring the Amalfi coast. Unfortuantely the apt we rented, from one of the Sorento websites, is not available anymore. It was a great location right downtown, with a terrace overlooking the water.
But we usually rent from VRBO or Homelidays.com, and have had very good luck using them. You can also check the apt rentals on Trip Advisor.com, and find one that appeals to you wioth good references.
