Looking for an AirBnB in Florence near Trains

I will be going to Italy next year for one month. I would like Florence to be my home base. I want to be within walking distance to the train. I am not familiar with the area at all...can anyone help me? I have ordered a street map of Florence

Any suggestions for a nice Airbnb that will sleep 5
Thank you

Almost anywhere in the historic center is walking distance to the train station

I guess you mean the railway and not the tramway.

Big and middle sized cities usually have more than one train station, so each station has its own name.
You want to stay within walking distance from Firenze Santa Maria Novella railway station, aka SMN or Firenze SM Novella.

You can also look at apartments on booking.com.
Open the map on the site, and zoom in on the SMN train station area, and lots will pop up on the map.
Open Google maps on another screen and go back and forth to look at the areas on Streetview.
Apartments to the south and east of the train station are closest to most of the historical sites.
Quieter areas are across the river in the Oltrarno area, or west and slightly north of SMN station.
If you are there for a month, you might want to be in a quieter area.
It gets noisy around the Duomo, I wouldn't stay near there again, as I got no sleep there on one of my trips to Florence.

I agree with SJ-booking.com might have more suggestions. As it’s for next year, it’s a bit early to be checking either site, but both do have offerings now. Some will say they don’t have anything available for your dates which usually means it’s too early to book. Airbnb listings normally include a decent price reduction when over 28 days-some require a full 30 to equal a month. (Ours for this September is a 28 day which really helped with our travel plans.)
Questions:
2 adults, 3 children? Ages of the children? Or is the consist different? If children will any of them be willing to share a bed and possibly a sleep sofa?
Price range?
Is close to the station 5 minutes or 15?
There are quite a few on airbnb right now, but some are pretty pricey, at least to me!

I use Airbnb a lot and have had very good experiences. You don't mention when next year you will be going, but for example I just searched airbnb.com for April next year for 1 month for 5 people, with at least 3 bedrooms/3 beds, 2 baths, I see 5-6 apartments within a mile of the train station, some closer. It also depends on what is your range for 'walking distance' and where else you would like to be located. I am staying in an airbnb in Florence next month right near the Duomo - but only for 3 people (otherwise I would highly recommend).

AirBnB website has a function where you can see available properties via map location. I'd suggest that as a starting point, along with filtering for bedroom needs, etc. Look for a Superhost apartment as well. If during summer months, look to have A/C as well.

Hi Dave! That's exciting! I'm about to leave for a month in Italy on July 4th. I have 8 apartments booked thru Booking.com, which is a site I absolutely LOVE and have been using exclusively to book my extended trips with zero problems since 2009. You haven't given enough info, like dates, budget, #bedrooms/#baths, etc. Booking.com is so easy to use and you can select all your preferences along the left side navigation (what landmarks you want to be near; air conditioning; free wifi; free cancellation; terrace/balcony; etc) I always search for listings with over a 9 review score (with 10 being the best) and I always read the reviews. You can book most apartments with no payment due and you can cancel free up to a short period of time before trip. I only book apartments with free cancellation and no pre-payment when I book far in advance, like you are doing. Just make sure they say Free Cancellation/No prepayment (the majority, but not all do.) On a few occasions, I've reached out to customer service on booking.com for help and they always respond and take care of whatever I need promptly. I really can't say enough good things about booking.com. I'm just wondering why you want to base in one location for the whole month?

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Bookings.com sounds good, I have used them before. I am planning my trip from late May to late June.

I will take all of your information and look on my street map to get ideas of where I want to stay. I will be traveling by myself, but hope some friends and family will be visiting. I will be 74 years old and don't mind just some quite time to myself, just relaxing and going to local markets to shop. Being no more than 15 min. to the a train station is important.

Thank you everyone again...if you have more suggestions I would be so very grateful to hear them.

I'm renting an AirBnB near the station this Fall.
I will try to remember to let you know how it was when I return.
It gets great reviews, and the owner sounds lovely in the email reply I received after a question I had.
Fingers crossed!

I use booking.com but read the descriptions carefully. The lower cost ones in the old town centres often require you to walk up 3 or 4 storeys using narrow stairs. Florence was good and the owner helped by carrying my wife's suitcase up the stairs. Most of our accommodation in Tuscany was up multiple stairs except for the agroturismo at Volterra. As you want one to accommodate 5 people it shouldn't be your problem.
