We will be staying about 6K from Cortona this June and will have a car. Can anyone recommend their favorite winery to visit within an hour’s drive? I think I would like to make reservations ahead.
Are there any must see WW2 sites also in this area?

Cortona to my favorite winery (Biondi Santi) is 1 hr and 7 min by car. Since you are staying 6k away you should be able to make it in under an hour. It's the king of the Brunello wine over in Montalicino.

I don't have a favorite but there will be lots within a few km from where you are staying.

The "Stefano Amerighi" winery in Cortona is probably the most prestigious label in the area. But there are many others nearby. Below are the labels in the Province of Arezzo that won nationally and internationally recognized awards in the past year. A couple of "Stefano Amerighi" wines are some of the winners.
