Looking for a woman to share packing list for "Best of South Italy in 13 days"

Hello,

I am scheduled for the "Best of South Italy in 13 days" trip in early April. Anyone who has been on this trip recently and would be willing to share a packing list would be appreciated. And, yes, I've checked Rick's packing list suggestions. I'm thinking I should bring:

2 pairs quick dry hiking pants (plus one I fly over in)
2 quick dry shirts (plus one I fly over in)
1 lightweight jacket (packs in it's own pocket - I will fly over in this too)
3 pairs undies (bra & panties sets)
1 skirt or dress
Toiletries (I need special hair & skin products)
1 pair hiking shoes (plus one pair black shoes, which I will fly over in)
3 pairs quick dry socks
Iphone for pics, texts, whatsapp, etc.
Money belt, Euros, Credit cards, passport, etc.

Do I need a small first aid kit, raincoat, hat, gloves, etc?
What am I missing here?
Is there anything you wish you'd brought with you?

Any helpful comments would truly be appreciated as I don't know what to expect for weather in early April. My previous Italian trips have been later in the Spring/Summer and Fall.

Many Thanks in advance,
Janet

You might want to wear the hiking shoes and pack the black shoes to save space and weight. Just a thought.

Yes, take a small first aid kit with a few band aids, moleskin, antiseptic cream and such. And a raincoat and big sun hat would be must haves for me.

If you take a raincoat with a hood, take a baseball cap with a long bill to wear under the hood. It will keep the hood from blocking your vision and keep the rain off your glasses or sun glasses.

Just fyi, here is a general packing list that has served well in the past. Some things are added or deleted depending upon the time of year and location of the trip.

Three under shirts – two regular and one tank top – wear one and pack two.
Five underwear -- wear one and pack four.
Three bras -- wear one and pack two.
Five pairs of socks – wear one and pack four.
Two pairs of shoes – wear one and pack one.
Three pairs of pants – wear one and pack two.
Three shirts or blouses – wear one and pack two
One jacket and one belt – both to be worn in route.
One vest, one sun hat, and one light sweater – all to be packed.
Rain coat to be packed.

Hope this helps.

We did this tour in April of 2022. I always pack my raincoat in the bottom of my backpack because it also works as a windbreaker. Looking back at our pictures, we had a couple days of rain and it absolutely poured in Naples the night of our final group dinner. In Vieste we took a group coastal boat ride in a smaller boat and while sunny we still got wet down with spray from the waves. I wish I had worn my raincoat because it was not easy trying to get the dried salt spray off our nano puffs. And in April you might want to pack a lightweight Merino sweater. I see I had mine on in several pictures. That being said, it’s hard to predict what the weather will be like now but it’s always good to be prepared. It is a wonderful tour, have a great time!

Definitely a rain jacket with a hood! That is standard for me for anywhere in Europe, any time. And as Margie says it's also your windproof layer.

I'd probably add a shirt. Are your quick dry shirts button up or more like a tee? Asking to see if you can layer under? Also wondering if you've worn these shirts at home? I once took a quick dry shirt from Lands End that I had not trialed at home and it held in BO. Even though I was not stinky the shirt was and I could not get the smell out with hand washing. I finally washed it and stuck it in the bottom of the suitcase, never to make the travel team again, lol.

Sunshirt? I always need that for Italy.

I am not heat tolerant so I would add a pair of capris but your dress may function as that depending on the type of dress. I am not a dress wearer, lol.

You don't have charger cords listed but you may have that on your list at home.

Do you do Apple Pay? If not, load up a CC now and start using it until you are proficient. I've used Applepay almost exclusively the last 3 trips including northern Italy. I even used it for 3E gelato!

Have a wonderful time!

Maybe a scarf and another warm top (something like a hoodie or cardigan) that can be layered--early April is cool!
For the first aid kit, pack the kind of things you would want to have immediately without stopping in a pharmacy, not much, just the vitals you would want in a pinch.
I always pack my own raincoat, but some will just pick up a poncho. You could check the ten day forecast just before you leave to decide.

I lay it all out and then sort of move things around so I know at what point I will need to do laundry. I want to be set up to that point *in addition to while it is drying.

Personally, I would get really tired of wearing a rotation of just three different shirts. I travelled carry on only for a little over two weeks in Spain and Morocco in November/December and was able to pack eight tops in addition to what I wore on the flight over.
Most of them were made from thin material and some had the ability to be layered with other tops. I also agree with others that you should bring a raincoat with a hood. I would add a pair of gloves, too, as they don't take up much space or weight and can be beneficial if it gets cooler.

Something for at least your top (and ideally down to thigh level) that is waterproof, not just water- resistant. Even if you just bring a single-poncho. This was the tour (in early May) when I discovered my raincoat was only water-resistant. Also, I bring an over-sized ziploc bag that I can bundle the wet top in during the day if weather clears.

I usually bring pairs of older underwear and throw away after use. I traveled with a friend one time who brought mini pads, put them in her underwear so she could get 2 days use out of them. I thought it was genius. We were on a 3 week trip. After getting rid of the older pairs I used the ones that I didn’t want to get rid of. It saved on washing early in the trip, which isn’t always convenient if you are moving around a lot. When I travel for 3-6 weeks I take 3 pair of pants, 5 tops max, a L sweatshirt, a raincoat that doesn’t soak through, pair of tennis shoes and a leather pair, and a skirt, in case I need it. As my grandmother use to say, “what makes you think anyone is looking at you!” I’m a “through the backdoor” traveler so I personally never feel a need to be all dressed up. A cool scarf can dress up almost any outfit. I always take various sizes of zip-lock bags, just in case.

You are missing a swim suit.

We took this tour two years ago.

In Matera, you may stay in a cave hotel and there is an underground thermal spa/pool. It was one of the highlights of the trip.
Also, in Maori, on the Amalfi Coast, the hotel has it;s own beach and many RS tour members swam here after your DIY day tour of Positano and Amalfi by ferry.
On Capri, if you take a third-party tour of Capri (We used Mondo tours). There is a boat tour around the island before they stop at the Blue Grotto. You will have a chance to dip into the water here from the boat.

F, 70+, solo traveler, public transpo and Europe in the spring and fall for a 30-45 days each trip, carryon only and I stay in apts 99% of the time with a washing machine. Depending on locale and after checking weather for the same period last year I bring 5-6 Dollar General plastic disposable rain ponchos, a small travel umbrella, rubber rain shoes and put a pair of walking around shoes in them, lots of panti-liners, only 1 extra bra, old undies, 1pair pants in addition to one I am wearing, generally 2 short sleeve Ts, 2 long with tops and pants color coordinated to outerwear. Weather.com does a 10 day forecast so for being gone 13 days that would give you a pretty good sense of what you need to bring. I also track the weather for the month before and then track how close the weather came to the forecast. I have a zippered scarf for my ID, money, key. I spent Nov3-Dec4 from Naples, AC which was in the low 70's at the beginning of Nov. The rest of Southern Italy for mid-November to early December was a light jacket and the one or two days a bit chiller than usual wore one of the short sleeve T's. I ordered a collapsible water bottle from Amazon and it should actually arrive tomorrow as there are lots of lovely water fountains with great tasting water available. I've taken to bringing an extra pair of sunglasses and I have about a dozen hats to wear to deal with the sun as well. You could always buy a hat upon arrival. I also bring the same nail polish that's on my nails to repair a chip, etc. Do you use a travel journal? Ciao!

I always take OTC meds for stomach and colds. You don't want to be shopping at 3 am or when on a tight schedule. I also would take many. more pairs of underpants than that -- they don't take up a lot of space but then I like cotton and so want to be able to run a load at a laundromat once a week rather than plastic quick dry underwear that can dry overnight.

And I travel in a windbreaker/raincoat that can be layered under. I spray with waterproofing before each trip as I do my lightweight waterproof hiking shoes. I am not seeing any warm layers in that list. I would want something to layer under the jacket/windbreaker for chilly weather. e.g. a lightweight down vest or a sweater. Even if it is fairly warm, it may be cold in the evening or on a boat. We nearly froze one time in Spain in April assuming it would be warm. I had silk long johns in the bag and that made all the difference in what was a lot chillier weather than I expected. Since then I make sure I always have something warm.
