my husband and i spend a wonderful week last year in ct and fell in love with the whole area, particularly vernazza. we're planning a return trip to europe and we're looking for that vernazza feel but would love to visit a new area, even a new country. anyone have any suggestions on a ct area that is not ct? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Positano & Amalfi Town on the Amalfi Coast! Not nearly as rustic as Cinque Terre, but we found its shoreline equally as beautiful. Sorrento and Capri are nearby, too, to provide a number of wonderful towns to explore. Most use Sorrento as the home base, but Positano and Amalfi will be more like Cinque Terre...to me, they were.
Varenna on Lake Como is a little like Vernazza. You can take a short ferry ride to visit the other towns around the Lake (Menaggio, Bellagio, etc.)
Jenny, Take a look at the itinerary for the RS Best of South Italy trip. If any of those towns look interesting to you then you can research them or post a new question asking to hear from people who have been to those towns. My husband & I are taking this trip in Sept & are looking forward to it. From what I can tell this area is not as well known so hopefully don't have the crowds that CT has. Have a great trip!
If in Germany, have you been to the black forest? Primarily, I love Triberg and surrounding areas. I travelled by train only, but it is perhaps best spent with a car.
