I will be in Sorrento with some family members in mid-September. My aunt's boyfriend's dad is from a small town in Foggia, Italy called Troia. They are wanting to take a day to travel there to see the town where his dad grew up. By train it's 4hrs + a 25min car ride to Troia. Although a private driver is more costly, I think it would make the trip much more enjoyable. If any of you know someone personally or have used a driver in the past who might be able to assist them I would greatly appreciate any and all referrals. Thanks so much!

You might try Raffaele Monetti who is listed in the Rick Steves book for driving tours from Sorrento for the Amalfi Coast and the area. He has several drivers working with him, often family members and can tailor trips to your wishes.
www.monettitaxi17.it You can call or email, his wife speaks English very well and can help you figure if this is right for you. Raffaele’s English is fine, too.
We used him for a day trip of the Amalfi Coast and Paestum and were very happy with our experience.

What might one expect to pay for a day or half day trip with a private driver in the Sorrento area?

Pasquale charged 300 euros for a full day... He picked us up in Sorrento at 9:30 and brought us back at 6pm.. He drove us through Positano... dropped us off in Amalfi for a couple of hours, picked us up and brought us to Ravello for a couple of hours.. brought us to a fruit stand on the Amalfi drive and was going to bring us for gelato but we were pooped. He will do whatever you want... you want to spend 4 hours in Positano instead, he'll do that.. Great guy!
