I'm heading back to Rome in a few weeks and would like to find a really good, informative tour of the Forum. I'm a history geek who is interested in every tiny detail. I just wandered on my own the last time, so I'm sure I missed 90% of the history. I can't afford a private guide, but can you recommend an affordable, but highly knowledgeable small tour?
Hi pf,
Check out different Colosseo/Roman Forum tours with The Roman Guy (different budgets and itinerary details) https://theromanguy.com/tours/colosseum-tours?utm_source=TRG&utm_medium=default-left-sidebar-to-colos&utm_campaign=GT#ourTours
If you're on a tighter budget, check out this one https://theromanguy.com/tours/Rome/Colosseum-Tour-Arena-Floor
They get great reviews and have smaller groups for a lot of their tours of Rome.
Also, Walks of Italy is another very good tour company https://www.walksofitaly.com/rome-tours/roman-colosseum-tours/
They also offer more Colosseo combined tours.
We did Walks of Italy for 2 different tours and thought the guides were wonderful. Very excited about what they are teaching you.
We had a private tour with The Roman Guy. for the Colosseum, Forum and Palantine Hill. The guide was an archaeologist. The tour was very detailed. I highly recommend them.
Through Eternity Tours. By far the best tour I've done anywhere in Europe-and North America for that matter. Used them for the Forum/Colosseum as well as the Vatican. https://www.througheternity.com/
Thank you so much for all your helpful information! I so appreciate your responses to make the most of my time in Rome.
I have used Zev Borzak, PhD through Anno Domini on several occasions, but not recently. http://www.anno-domini.us/index.htm His degree is in Roman History and is very knowledgeable.
Thanks so much for all your ideas! This is great info.
My wife and I just returned from 10 days in Rome. I would also recommend the Walks of Italy Forum and Coliseum tour. Our guide, Franhesca was fabulous. We ended up coming back and doing the Forum and Palatine Hill on our own our last day in the city. But the tour and the information she gave us were both fantastic.
