Looking for a few good restraunts in Venice inexpensive seafoo, pasta etc... Any recommendations
Trattoria All' Antica Mola: Fonsamenta deglu Ormesini--near the ghetto Nuova
Taverna San Trovaso: Fondamenta Priuli Dorosoduro
I second the Dorsoduro area, I had my best meal in Italy there. I'm sorry, I can't remember the name of the restaurant. However, I can remember where I had my worst meal; St Marks Square. I had told my Hotelier of my bad expereance and he sent me to Dorsoduro. It was a good advice.
I liked Taverna San Trovaso near the Accademia Bridge. Do an internet search and you will find their website as well as some informative reviews.
Pasta+,Da Beppi,Cannaregio;Antico Capon,Campo Santa Margherita in Dorsoduro-excellent pizza;La Rivetta,east of Chiesa San Zaccharia,almost beneath a bridge,San Marco;Torre___,Murano,at the tower.
La Rivetta is great... but be wise, and observant. The waiter brought over some nice munchies, while we were absorbing the menu- (filled with 12-18E secondi)- "you must to try these" and dishing out both of us plates of 2 scallops with shrimp, coated with polenta, stuffed with spinach on a clam shell. Excellent! A second appetizer appeared, eggplant wrapped around sausage in a ragu, and it, indeed was excellent as well. We were well filled, so only ordered secondis; with house wine during dinner and a grappa and cafe', we dropped the most money we've ever spent on a meal in Italy. 100 Euros..... we always stay under 70E, so what happened?????
Those scallops were 12 E each, and the stuffed eggplant 12E, so with wine, water and the coperto, we were over 50E before we even got to the real meal!!!!
Be observant- that cute winking grandfatherly gentleman has designs on your pocketbook- but, I have to say, the food was excellent.
I had a fabulous meal at Al Pantalon which is in Dorsuduro near the Rialto Bridge. I was wandering around and it looked good and was filled with locals -- look for families for good value.
I'm also looking for good NON TOURIST TRAPS to eat at in Venice. Has anybody ever eaten at " Da Fiore " I understand it is expensive but would like to know if anybody has any experiences there.
We have always found our dinner restaurants by looking at the menus posted outside. While we wander during the day, we check them out. Then make note in the journal of the spots we want to return to in the evening. I am not good at remember names - but there is a great out of the way place near the famous old theater that burned...
There's a little osteria where the locals (including the gondoliers) eat called "Osteria Al Diavolo e l'Aquasanta". It's in the San Polo neighborhood.
