This October we are flying from JFK on a Sunday, we will have 5-6 nights before we join a week long tour the following Sunday in Sorrento. What do you recommend we do with these 5-6 nights. My thoughts are going to the Dolomites or Puglia but open to any location where we are not in a big city.
Flying from JFK into where?
Where are you going on the Sorrento tour?
We have not purchased air yet. Our Sorrento tour includes; Capri, Naples, Napoli.
Naples and Napoli are the same thing, just FYI :)
Thank you
Have you already been to Rome?
I like both Puglia and the Dolomites, but the April [oops--I meant October!] weather in those two places could be quite different. I wonder whether things could be slowing down in the Dolomites in October, especially during the latter half of the month. However, that's not something I've ever researched. I think the topic has come up a few times on this forum; you might find earlier posts on that subject via the Search function.
Yes, we have been to Rome
Puglia would be a lot closer, and a better choice. October is getting late for the Dolomites, unless it is right near the first of the month. And you would have a long day or two of travel from there to Naples, unless you fly.
For Puglia, you can fly into Bari or Brindisi and you are there. Then you could take the train from Bari to Naples. With a train change in Caserta, the journey can take as little as 4 hours. Or take the train from Bari to Matera, overnight there, and continue to Naples by the FrecciaLink bus/train combo ( change from bus to train in Salerno).
Have you been to Tuscany (Florence, Siena, Montepulciano, Pienza, Pisa, Lucca, Volterra and San Gimignanao)? You can fly into Florence from JFK that requires one connection only. It would be quicker to get from Florence to Sorrento than from Bari (Puglia) to Sorento by 1h.
We have been there, years ago. If there was a specific area ?
I would like to possibly stay in one place that we can explore daily and get over jet lag.
