Looking at the options for passes in Venice?

We will be touring Venice for 2.5 days, our apartment is very close to the bus and train stations, and we enjoy walking.

There appear to be several options for passes to museums, churches, some including transportation, etc..

Including some newer passes that we are having a hard time finding the details about. (platinum, gold, siver passes)

Primary sites we would like to see are: Doge's Palace and Correr Museum, St Marks Basillca and Museum, and I'm sure others as we go along.

Thanks.

From RS Italy 2018, p. 61:
For most people, the best choice is the Museum Pass, which covers entry into the Doge’s Palace, Correr Museum, and more. Note that seven of the most visit-worthy sights in town (the Accademia, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Scuola San Rocco, Campanile, and the three sights within St. Mark’s Basilica that charge admission) are not covered by any pass.

For the sights you've listed so far, the Doge's Palace and Correr Museum are covered by the €20 Combo Ticket, St Marks Basillca is free, and the museums inside the Basilica are cheap and you just pay on the spot. If you want to see at least one more museum that's under the €24 Museum Pass, then that pass is worthwhile.

The Chorus Pass for €12 covers most admission-charging churches, including the Frari (again not needed for St. Mark's).

I would also get a 48-hour vaporetto pass for 30 euros per person. You may be better walkers than I am but your hotel location is not the closest to most sightseeing, so you might like to take a couple of boat rides per day.

Actually, the primary sight in Venice is Venice itself. And one of the best ways to experience it is from the water. Yes, get a vaporetto pass and use it to see the views of waterside buildings and to save your energy getting back to your apartment and to have a romantic evening ride.

Sounds like very good advice, thanks.

Does the vaparetto pass also include transportation to Venice from the airport?

The vaporettos do not service Marco Polo airport. There is some sort of add on to the time based pass that allows travel to Marco Polo. Saves about two euro.

Can anyone help clarify this?

The bus to the airport is not covered by the vaporetto pass - it is only for boats. When you buy it you can include one of the buses, but not the competing one. They go from the airport back and forth to Piazzale Roma where you get the vaporetto. If you include it the price is about 2 euro less than if you just paid for it, but you lose the option of using the other bus, and you can't use that ticket on a water taxi or shared water taxi or land taxi or Alilaguna.

Thanks. The bus seems to be the least expensive option for transportation from the airport. Is it a good option, or should we be considering another means?

The bus takes you from the airport (Marco Polo) to Piazzale Roma in Venice.

You say your apartment is close to the Venice train and bus stations, so assuming you mean Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia and not Mestre, you can just walk from the bus plaza to your apartment. People staying in other areas of Venice, such as San Marco, transfer from bus to vaporetto at Piazzale Roma.

The Alilaguna goes across the water from the airport to various points around Venice and the lagoon. I used to suggest this as a way into Venice, but often the boats' windows are fogged or dirty and you cannot see out, so you lose the main benefit of this mode of transport.

Would like feedback on visiting the Correr museum in Venice. Trying to decide wether
to purchase the combo Doge & Correr ticket or the Secret itineraries tour of the Doge's Palace.

thank you

We are currently in Venice for the week and purchased the Museum Pass. We felt it was money well spent. We purchased ours at the Correr Museum (it was one of our favorites). Doge's Palace was on our agenda this afternoon. It was phenomenal. Not on the pass is the Peggy Guggenheim. It was our favorite for contemporary art. We were at the Frari Church in the am which is included in the Chorus Pass. Wonderful!

You may need to pick a few if limited on time! We think the museum pass is geared more for a week in Venice.
