Well, not exactly looong term but 3 weeks. Any suggestions for an agency? My go to sources don't give much of a discount for multi week stays (Airbnb, Homeaway, etc).
Thank you.
Contact this chap, he is very nice. You may be able to haggle:
You might look into www.SabbaticalHomes.com. Some of the homes are available for as short as a week or two (or three).
I have had good luck asking for a better price on VRBO and HomeAway. I just write to the owner/manager and tell them I would like to stay for XX weeks or nights and can they offer a better price than the online quote. Sometimes I can get them to remove the cleaning fee and the service fee, so "all" I am paying is the rent.
I rented a very nice place near the Vatican for 6 nights in June. The owner, Daniele, and the place were both great. The name of the place is La Porta Rossa di Borgo -- Vatican Luxury Suite. It's listed on Booking.com, VRBO and Homeaway.
Unfortunately, I don't have his phone number, but you might be able to get it by looking on those websites. However, I do have his direct email. It is [email protected]. You might be able to work something out directly with him for that length of time.
Take a look at the listings and reviews, especially those on Booking.com, first to see if the place and its location is good for you. I was torn between this place and one in Trastevere, but the reviews talked about noise there. I was in Trastevere on a Saturday night and quickly realized that I'd made the right choice.
Keep in mind that there is no elevator and the apartment is on the 2nd (European) floor. The view of the dome of St. Peter's more than makes up for that.
If you are interested, PM me with questions. I can provide lots of info on transportation and grocery shopping in the area.
We rented an apartment for six nights this year late February/early March from these people, who own a hotel at Campo de' Fiori: http://www.hotelcampodefiori.com/en/. Click on the pull-down menu 'Dependances', although ours wasn't listed on the website and thus we had to ask for pictures.
It was a small 2nd story studio flat overlooking the market. Price was very reasonable, under 100 Euro/night, with an added feature being daily maid service. That time of year, without the swarms of tourists, in the cool temps we were able to keep the windows open and not have it be too loud at any time. And being woken up slowly around 6AM by the native workers setting up their fruit & vegetable stalls for the day was like music.
We discussed it at the time & decided that we could've done a month there easily without feeling claustrophobic or getting bored.
Enjoy your planning!
