Logistics - Monterosso to Camogli to Portofino to Monterosso

We will be in the CT next month & would like to take a day trip from Monterosso to Camogli & Portofino & then back to Monterosso at the end of the day. I would like to take a ferry between all these places but it doesn't appear to be feasible (unless I'm missing something). It looks like I should take a train from Monterosso to Camogli but then I'm unsure as to how to get from Camogli to Portofino & then from Portofino to Monterosso. I would be most appreciative if someone could shed some light on this for me!! According to golfoparadiso.it, I can take a boat from Camogli to Portofino but only at 3pm which is too late. Am I correct that there's only 1 boat/day from Camogli to Portofino? So, what's the best way to get from Camogli to Portofino and then back to Monterosso? Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

Sheron, Visiting both Camogli and Portofino as a day trip from Monterosso should be possible, but it won't allow a lot of time to look around either place. I don't have any information on the boats to Camogli, so can't help with that part of the question. In the same situation, I'd travel by train using the following route: Take one of the direct trains from Monterosso to Camogli-S. Fruttuoso (travel time of about an hour). I don't know how far it is from the station to the town centre of Camogli. When you've looked around there, take the train back to S. Margherita Ligure-Portofino (travel time about 5 minutes). You can buy a ticket for the boat in the Tabachi adjacent to the station. Walk down the stairs and then bear to the right to reach the boat docks. The boats to Portofino travel about every half hour or so, and the trip is about 20-minutes. There's also a trail from Santa Margherita, but that wouldn't be my choice (details in the Guidebook). When you've seen Portofino, take the boat back to S. Margherita Ligure, walk back to the station and take the train back to Monterosso (travel time of about 45 minutes to 1H:15M). I took a day trip to Portofino by train last year (using the route I described), and it was very easy. Happy travels!
