I know there are several train terminus in Milan (2-3?) We are arriving early morning at MXP and need to catch a train to Venice (to board a cruise later that evening.) We have plenty of time - just wondered how best to get from the airport to the correct train station. Thanks.
You will be using Trenitalia to Venice, and your train will leave from Milano Centrale (which is indeed the main station). To get there from MXP terminal 1, you can take the train or the bus; from terminal 2, the bus is easier (you would have to take a bus from T2 to T1 to get the train). Be careful; there are also trains to Milano Cadorna, which is closer to the center but does not have trains to Venice. The bus leaves four times an hour and takes about an hour, the train leaves twice an hour and takes about 40 minutes.
Jayant, As Harold mentioned, the train will be the best method from MXP. There's a rail station at Terminal 1 and you'll be using the Malpensa Express. Be sure that you board the train going to Milano Centrale and NOT Milano Cadorna. When you buy your ticket at the airport rail station, also buy tickets for the train to Venice. Your destination station will be Venezia Santa Lucia unless your cruise line specifies a different station. You'll likely be using a Freccia high speed train (300 kmH) and you MUST be sure to only board the train specified on your ticket. These have compulsory reservations that are specific to each train, date and departure time. Your ticket will specify your Car No. (Carrozza) and Seat No's. (Posti). Be sure to watch your luggage at Milano Centrale, as there will likely be thieves about. Happy travels!
Milan has 22 train stations. Yes, twenty-two. MILANO CENTRALE is the station you want. Your train to VENEZIA SANTA LUCIA will depart from there. Just follow Ken's advice.
