We are looking for lodging about halfway between the Cinque Terre and French Riveria. It looks like Genoa, but are open to suggestions.
Thanks.

What are you looking for? What is the purpose of your visit?
Genoa is a big industrial port city.
Are you just looking for a place to stay overnight? I recommend charming, waterfront Noli which is beyond Genoa. It has a medieval quarter, a castle on a hill and a promenade along the beach. We stayed at lovely Palazzo Vescovile up on the hill; it has an incredible restaurant too. We used it as a stop between Tuscany and the Nice airport.
The midway point will depend on where you're headed on the Riviera.
Are you traveling by train?
We're flying into Milan and arriving early in the morning, and then taking the train south towards the Genoa area. We want a nice base between Cinque Terre and the French Riveria. We want to stay there a few days and spend some time taking the train or boat to the Cinque Terre. I figure it will take 2-3 days to thoroughly explore this area. We then plan to rent a car and head to the French Riveria, the Cote d'Azur. We don't know how much time we will spend there. A couple of days tops. This is a more play it by ear trip, so the timing in each area is flexible.
