Lodging recommendations for Lake Garda towns Desenzano and Riva Garda

We are looking for reasonably priced accommodations (hotel or Air BnB) for the towns of Desenzano and Riva Garda for this upcoming September. We will be staying 3 - 4 nights at each site. We are using public transportation. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

hey hey ltgrubensky
what is "reasonable" as in euros, how many people and where are you coming from?
september is a busy month with wine harvests and festivals. we attended one in bardolino few years back, end sept/beginning october. stayed at hotel nettuno on the lake. loved it and beautiful town with shops, restaurants, ferry dock.
look at booking.com, put in filters. and see what's available near a train station. email hotel directly to see if better rates. good luck

I don’t know what you deem “reasonable”; but the past two Septembers we have stayed in a lovely lakeview room at Park Hotel in Desenzano. They are an easy walk from the ferry and from the public beach; also walkable from the train for some, or an inexpensive taxi ride. They have a nice garden restaurant that is so good we have not dined anywhere else while staying in Desenzano. But the restaurant on the oldtown piazza area are a minute walk if you want to branch out.

In September 2022 we stayed in Riva del Garda at the Holiday IV Gardan for 115 euros per night breakfast included. We loved it. A short walk down to the water's edge and main area of town. It's a clean, modern hotel with a friendly young staff, good sized rooms with spectacular views of the mountains, large new shower and bathroom. It has a "stuffed animal" theme which won me over instantly! And the included hotel breakfast is probably one of the best we've ever encountered. There is nothing you could want that isn't offered. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

We took a train to Rovereto from Verona and then a bus to Riva. In hindsight, forget the bus. Take a taxi! The bus was crowded, hot, and slow. On the way out of Riva we took a 30-minute taxi to Rovereto for 50 euros. Well worth it.

A restaurant recommendation in Riva: Leon d'Oro (Golden Lion.) We ate here twice. Excellent food, lovely restaurant. I recommend the Strangolapreti with butter and sage. These are gnocchi made with bread, not potato. So light and heavenly!

Enjoy your trip!

We have stayed at both Hotel Mayer & Splendid and Antica Dimora in Desenzano. Mayer & Splendid is very plain but very clean, quiet, and very reasonably priced. Antica Dimora was a little higher priced, but very elegant. We will be staying at Antica Dimora again this September. Both hotels are right near the lakefront ferry landing.
