Request recommendations for lodging near Naples Airport (NAP). Is it better to be close to airport or in town.

The airport is very close to town, I would stay in Napoli if you are already there, or if not, at a hotel near the station. The StarHotel Terminus is a business-type hotel just across the street from the station. There is the train station taxi queue a minute away, the airport is less than ten minutes' ride.
