Hello! Does anyone have any recommendations for a hotel near the Fiumicino airport? Thank you.

When I stayed in Fiumicino before a flight last summer I stayed at the Best Western. For a small fee they do have a shuttle to the airport, they have wifi and a breakfast in the morning. I went to either Expedia or Travelocity and looked at the options. There are cheaper hotels, but some of the reviews were very unflattering and not places I wanted to stay. I didn't arrive to Fiumicino until quite late anyways, so I didn't need a place that was right on the beach. The plus for me for the Best Western was that they had the shuttle, because I figured that would be cheaper and easier to set up than a taxi (I was leaving for the airport at 6am). Use those sites and figure out what you want, go from there! I was able to use my AAA discount and get the room for cheaper so that was helpful.

In March 2009, we also stayed at the Best Western, Hotel Riviera, Fiumicino. We spent our last night there and took the train to the airport from Rome. Upon arrival we called the hotel for the shuttle pickup. Unbeknownst to us, it was too early for the shuttle driver and the hotel owner picked us up. He didn't say who he was and helped us with our cases (two carryons) and later declined our offer of a tip. We carried on a conversation with our very limited Italian and were curious when we arrived at the hotel and he spoke with the receptionist and they both laughed. The English speaking receptionist then explained that he was the owner and we all shared a laugh at our mistake. He also told us that shuttle drivers should not be tipped as they are paid. The airport shuttle, which we took back to the airport the next morning, was convenient and there was a fee although I don't recall what it was. It was a convenient hotel, near the sea, with modern amenities. I recommend it.
