Lodging in Vernazza

In addition to the recommendations in RS's book, does anyone have any additional recommendations for lodging at or near the waterfront in Varnazza? As with everyone else, we are looking for a quiet, clean, reasonably-priced room with true local character. Thank you kindly.

Martina's Rooms in Vernazza. She has a website. Just type in Martina's Rooms Vernazza in your search engine and it will come up. Like many of the places, there are several flights of stairs. Great views of the harbor, very clean and reasonable rates. Martina will respond to your email inquiries and is reliable. Confirm your reservation again a week or two before your arrival date. Very important anywhere in the Cinque Terre!

Gianni Franzi

Check out the picture of their private (hotel guests only) terrace overlooking the sea on their website. It was AWESOME.

A big second for the Cozy Studio with Maria and Giacommo. right on the main square by the sea wall, kitchen (fridge) and table, great restaurants right outside your front door and super friendly hosts...all for €80....

LaMala in Vernazza is very beautiful (www.lamala.it). Wonderful vistas from the terrace, clean and modern rooms, flat screen TV, very comfortable beds. However, none of the accommodations in Vernazza are actually on the water. Since the town is built upwards, most have views of the water, but you'll see when you arrive that climbing stairs is really the norm and that the rooms for rent are not exactly "beachfront" type of rooms.

I'll second the recommendation for La Mala, although it's probably atypical and it's certainly more of a splurge than other accommodations in Cinque Terre.

But, it's an amazing place!

Try www.elisabettacarro.it. We have stayed there several times. It is ABOVE the waterfront - about 500 straight up steep, rough steps, but the view makes it worthwhile.
