Lodging in Vernazza?

Has anybody stayed at Trattoria Gianni or Camere Giuliano Basso rooms in Verazza? Do you think some of these small places will take reserv. 9 months ahead?

Louise - I stayed at Trattoria Gianni back in 1999 when there was only one building (now two). Room was on top floor with bath, and I recall it being nice. There are a lot of stairs to get up to the buildings, and that is a consideration for some people. Last year, I stayed at Memo Rooms and would recommend it. My room overlooked the main street, but I didn't find street noise to a problem.

Hi Louise!

I stayed at Trattoria Gianni just this last September, and it was one of my favorite hotels of my trip. The rooms are definitely simple, but very clean with a view that would compensate for anything (even stairs). I stayed on the very top floor of the very top building and do want to make it clear that I can see how it would be problematic for some travelers (I’m 25 and fairly fit, and it definitely made my thighs burn). After climbing numerous flights of stone steps, you reach your building which requires climbing a tight spiral staircase up to your floor. My room had a little balcony; to the right I had an endless view of the sea and to the left I had a view of Vernanzza and the hillside’s tumbling houses. I took a lot pictures of the view from my room, if you private message me with your email address I would be happy to send some to you.

Louise,
I am going for my 3rd trip to Vernazza, and my 3rd time staying at Franca Maria rooms. Some overlook the harbor, they have private bathrooms, some have kitchens, and best of all, very few steps! They do have a website so you can see the rooms. I don't know the other rooms you mentioned

My daughter and I stayed at Franca Maria Room #1 in March 2008 and loved the room. It is a large room with small kitchen area with table and chairs and a private bath. The view of the harbor is wonderful. After traveling from Paris to Rome Vernazza was a delightful place to unwind before going to Florence and Venice.
Have a great trip.

We love Vernazza- especially at night when all the hikers are gone.We have not stayed at these two, but you must reserve 9-12 months in advance now if you hope to get the room you want.We stay at Toninno Basso's room at the top of the town and he fills up at least a year in advance.

My husband and I just spent 3 nights at Trattoria Gianni in the "Guila" room. It was more like a small apartment. There were 3 rooms, on 3 levels, with winding staircases. Quite quirky, but my husband dubbed it is favorite place on our trip. There were roughly eighty steps to get to it. Not a straight up climb, so manageable. And the room had a roof top terrace with lounge chairs and patio table, plants. quite lovely, overlooking the harbor. It even had a clothesline,so I could hand out my laundry like a real Italian! I think you could book that far ahead.

hi, we have just stayed in Vernazza and stayed with Titti Leonardini [email protected] she is wonderful, their little apartment is wonderful and sleeps 4 and is right on the square. It was 60 Euro for the two of us and Titti and Gionni were wonderful hosts. It was very clean with very few stairs. Be sure and take the boat that takes you to all of the villages, in fact, spring for the 20Euro ticket and spend the day, it will be the best money you spend in Italy. Have fun!!! kathy

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I posted this question back in January and we've been reserved for a while now with Franca Maria Rooms, #2. Their website shows pics of the view from each room and this one overlooks the end of the harbor and the "courtyard" area as well. We're very excited. Thanks for the tip on the boat rides - I've read a few posts that have said how worth it for the views, etc. What's the 20euro ticket for - unlimited boat travel to each town?
