Lodging in Venice and Varenna?

In October, we are going to stay a couple of nights in Venice and then Varenna. Want to be in the heart of the everything, but not blow the budget too badly. We are using public transportation to get around? Any recommendations? Thanks. Doug

Doug,

We stayed at 'Albergo Milano' in Varenna & it was quite charming.
We stayed at one of their apartments, 'Casa Gialla' ( Yellow House),
a 2 bedroom apartment adjacent to the main hotel. The price included a delicious breakfast too.

Here is their website:http://www.varenna.net/ENG/hotel.html

When in October will you be traveling to Varenna?
The weather may be iffy then. We were there at the beginning of October & had 2 beautiful sunny days, then one rainy/ foggy day.

Enjoy your trip!

I found a cute and quirky hotel in Canarregio in Venezia, Locanda San Marcuolo. Very close to the vaporetto stop, quiet area. It has an elevator, I think I paid about €120 double.

In Venice, I wanted to stay on the Grand Canal, but didn't want to pay the prices. I found a recommendation through Trip Advisors for an Inn, right on the Canal and in the midst of everything. It's called the Locando Leon Bianco. There are only 7 rooms, the owner checks you in, helps you with your bags, and brings you breakfast in the morning. Other than that, you are on your own. Since we are only staying 2 nights I figured that was OK. You can see the Rialto Brudges from your room. The room you want with the 3 windows that is on their website is jr. Suite no. 4. There is another room with the Grand Canal view with 2 windows. If we were staying longer I would have wanted a hotel. However, for 2 nights I will be loving having my coffee by the table in the morning looking at that view.
