My husband and I will be in the Tuscany/Umbria Regions of Italy in March 2011. We are staying in an apartment near Pienza for 2 weeks, and we would like to find another apartment in the Umbria or Le Marche Region for a week. We are looking for a central location in a small town/village from which to visit other small villages. We will have a car. Does anyone have an agriturismo, B&B or apartment that they love in either of these regions?
Last May we stayed in two agris in Tuscany and Umbria, and loved them. Both were less than 75 EU/nite, both had quiet ,large self-contained apts, both had fantastic owners, both placed us in good locations for exploring the area, and both had pools. (not that you would have need for that in March) Neither provided meals, but our price point ruled that out. The one in Umbria was outside of Orvieto. It was an apt in the owners farm house. We drove to Orvieto many nites for dinners, or ate in one of the hill towns. (agri Frallarenza). The one in Tuscany was between Firenze and Sienna, about a 1/2 mile off the freeway in the Chianti area, with a great view
(agri Borgo Sichelle) Check out the reviews in Trip Advisor.
Cindy: We have not stayed here yet, but will be there in December: Casa Spello in Spello near Assisi. I chose the village as a place we could use as a base to do just what you are planning to do. They were very nice to deal with. Check them out at http://www.italybackroads.com. Great reviews on Trip Advisor.
