five of us (women in our early 50's ) will be traveling through italy next summer. do you have any suggestions/recommendations for lodging in the bolzano/castlerotto area?

I would definitely stay in Castelrotto. It's a delightful little town with easy transportation to the Alpi Suissi.
We stayed at a Garni(B&B) within a few minutes walking distance from town. I believe it was the Binterhof. There is a nice selection on this site.
