We are considering homebasing in Spello next October to explore Umbria by car. We would be there 3 nights. It looks like it's near a main road which would make it easy to access the other towns. Would you recommend staying outside the town or actually IN the town? Any specific hotel/B&B recommendations are welcome! Grazie!

Stay IN the town which has parking lots around the town’s perimeters. Spello is so charming. We stayed in a friend’s house but there were many hotels there.

Definitely stay in the town. We stayed in Perugia, and went to Spello, but wished we would have stayed there instead. It is indeed very charming!
