We will be traveling to Italy in May 2009 and need to find a reasonably priced, clean, safe hotel in Siena. We will be there for 2 nights. I've used Rick Steve's guide book but when I look up these hotels' reviews on tripadvisor, I see some pretty drab reviews. Noisy (I understand that's to be expected), showers leaking into the room, super lumpy beds... Any recommendations on where to stay?

give alma domus a try. great eating place right behind alma domus as you get to the top of the stairs. good luck :):)

We enjoyed our 3 nights at Hotel Villa Elda last summer. It's in a quiet neighborhood, about a 10 minute walk from the city center. Very nice rooms and friendly staff. A bit more expensive than the average Siena hotel but we felt it was worth it.

Hotel Chisurelli (not spelled right), its in the RS book. It is in a very old looking building. The breakfast was pretty darn good. It is right across from a bus depot which made arriving and departing from Florence super easy. We had a wine tour pick us up here that we arranged thru the hotel and it was fabulous. But the best and MOST unexpected surprise was that our balcony overlooked the Sienna soccer field. We got to watch Siena vs Milan for free from our balcony. It was a huge hightlight!!! I can't promise you will experience the same though depending on your room and the soccer schedule :) The bathrooms were modern (esp compared to what we had had the previously 5 nights). The only thing that was maybe not that great is the bed was a little stiff and the room a little drafty. But I would stay there again.

Thanks, I will look into those places. Has anyone heard of this place Castello delle Quattro Torra it is 10 minutes outside of Siena. It looks like a gorgeous castle. I'm not sure about it though... I haven't heard anything about it from RS.
