Lodging in Rome--question about a particular place (edited query)

Has anyone stayed at Hotel Trastevere? (Earlier I asked about a different place.) Also, I see it is just a short walk from the Trastevere Mastai stop. Let me know if there is any reason not to get out there and walk from there to the hotel. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies to my earlier question; I'm asking now about another place now.

I haven't stayed there but have stayed many times near there. It's an excellent location and that particular place has no curfew, per their website - always a concern with convent/monastery lodging. The area is perfectly safe with the usual big city precautions applicable everywhere. You can easily take the tram #8 from the Trastevere train station to the Belli stop, right before the river. It's a 7 minute walk from there. (Via della Lungarina is the most charming route, but it's cobblestones the whole way. Your call.)

Be sure to check out some amazing churches right in that immediate area:
San Benedetto in Piscinula (possibly Rome's smallest church)
Santa Cecilia in Trastevere - patron saint of music, beautiful and moving baroque statue of her body as she was found. Bonus: Go up into the choir loft to see a recently discovered and restored medieval fresco of the Last Judgment. Be sure to read the explanatory notes up there.
San Crisogono - go to the level underground to see some really cool ruins/remnants of the previous church
And the absolute showstopper - Santa Maria in Trastevere. Plug a few coins in the light box to see the gold mosaics light up

Have taken the train to Trastevere and then tram 8 many times. It’s an easy option and more direct than going to the main Roma Termini. Just know that when you arrive at Trastevere, you’ll need to take the steps down to get across the tracks to the station. Also, to then catch tram 8, when you leave the station, you walk to the left side of the station driveway. You’ll want the tram heading into the main part of Trastevere.

Thanks, Becky. That's good to know. I hope it isn't a huge flight of steps. I'll be carrying my Rick Steves suitcase, so nothing huge!

Best,

There are elevators both on the platform and going up to the station. Getting to the tram is bumpy, but only about a block away.

I have stayed at the hotel trastevere several times, although the last time was a number of years ago. Great location, a small market in the piazza behind the hotel, a real neighborhood place. If I were to return it would be my first choice after updated research.

Thanks, Becky. Is it obvious which way to walk to find the tram?

Once you walk out from the main entrance of the station (the station is somewhat small) there is a parking lot between the station and Via Trastevere, so as Becky mentioned, you want to skirt around to the left to Via Trastevere (the street curves right at the station and actually becomes a differently named street) and the Tram Stop is to your left, rather than obvious, it is "apparent" if that makes sense. The Tram stop is actually on an island or median in the center of the street. Since you want to head toward central Rome on Via Trastevere, you want the stop on the "Station side" of the tracks.

If you are adept using Google Maps, you can do street view to do a virtual look at the area.

From the Tram stop near the hotel, it is only a couple easy blocks.
