Lodging in Rome, Italy

Hi there,
I'm headed to Rome in a couple of weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any inexpensive lodging recommendations preferably near the center of Rome? Also, does anyone have suggestions on what all to see and miss in Rome? Thank you!

You should pick up a copy of the Rick Steves Rome 2011 book right now. It's loaded with exactly the kind of information you'll need and organized in a much more useful way than a bunch of responses on this bulletin board. Best wishes.

Definitely agree with Michael, you were somehow directed to this site, believe us all, his books are great!!! I bought the book probably 9 months before out trip!! I can give you a recommendation of a place to stay, it's where we were in March, www.romabandb.it It's not in the center of Rome, it's near the Vatican but between two different metro stops and simple to reach the city center as well as cheaper. It's hard for someone to tell you what to see and not see when that's more of a personal choice...

Kelli, I definitely agree with the others! It would be a really good idea to buy a copy of the Rome Guidebook ASAP and pack it along on the trip. It's now available in E-book format, so you could easily download in a few minutes if you have an iPad, Kindle, iPod Touch (with Kindle Reader) or other E-book system. The inexpensive price of the book will more than pay for itself! It has LOTS of information on sights in Rome, how to avoid line-ups, opening and closing days, etc. As you'll be leaving in a couple of weeks, I'd suggest getting a Hotel booked SOON! If this is your first visit to Rome, you might consider staying in the vicinity of Termini station, as it's a very convenient location for transportation to the main sites. Two Hotels that you could look at are Hotel Aberdeen or Hotel Sonya. If you'd prefer a somewhat "unique and interesting" neighborhood you could consider staying in the Trastevere area. I'd suggest taking a Taxi from Termini station, as there are no convenient Metro stops nearby. One Hotel that you could consider is Casa San Guiseppe. I assume you're going to use the Leonardo Express from the airport to Rome? DON'T forget to validate your ticket! Be sure to wear a Money Belt, as the pickpockets there are VERY skilled! Avoid the #64 Bus if possible as it has a bit of a "reputation" as a haven for scammers. Happy travels!
