Any recommendations for lodging in Rome?
Check out Hotel Smeraldo. The location (closest to Campo dei Fiori, but easy walking distance to most sights) is phenomenal, and it has nice rooms, air conditioning, rooftop garden, helpful staff, internet access, and an optional breakfast.
And, search the Helpline. There are loads of other recommendations as well.
We stayed at Residenza Argentina, around the corner from Hotel Smeralda and absolutely loved it. It was small (only six rooms) and personal. The staff there is very friendly and bent over backwards to help out. Great breakfast - but best of all, fabulous location. Walking distance to Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Venezia, etc. Check out the reviews on TripAdvisor - everyone loves it and this is what sold us. You won't be disappointed!
WOW !!!! That is an open ended question !!! About 10,000 hotels in Rome or maybe more. Try -- Sonya, Aberdeen, & Contilia -- all three stars in the Termini area which is our preference for staying in Rome. We think the Sonya has slightly better breakfast than Aberdeen and Contilia is our backup if we cannot get into either of the other two.
What's your budget and what time of year will you be headed to Rome?
We like Hotel Parlemento for its location and price. The staff there is very helpful and they do a nice breakfast also. We had five nights there last November for 105 euros which is great for Rome.
Hotel giardino...great location, very reasonable, enlgish speaking staff (most helpful)....
Try this website www.cross-pollinate.com It is a bed and breakfast and apartment booking service owned and operated by an American family living in Rome. I have stayed many times and have never had a problem and the accommodations are great and reasonably priced. Have fun!!!
We are staying for the 2nd time at the international womens hostel(la Foresteria orsa Maggiore). It is an old convent so there are cloisters to relax in Walk to the Vatican and over the Tiber to many sights Brenda
We also liked Smeraldo and would recommend it.
Smeralda got high recommendations on the helpline but one thing the hotel said to us was that they could not assign or designate smoking/non-smoking rooms.
We would much prefer a non-smoking room. Did anyone else encounter this problem?
Karen,
My suggestion would be to check Rick's "Italy" book and find a Hotel that is both in the price range and the area that suits you. There are lots of choices, but you didn't provide any "price guidelines", so it's difficult to make a specific recommendation.
The Hotel Smeraldo mentioned in previous posts seems to get consistently good ratings. You might also have a look at Casa San Giuseppe in the Trastevere area.
Cheers!
Karen,
We stayed at Hotel Max a couple of times. It is located near Termini Train Station. It is clean, safe, staff is friendly and helpful and very nice breakfast.
We didn't have an issue with smokiness in our room at Hotel Smeraldo. It honestly didn't occur to us to ask for non-smoking rooms, since we have been spoiled in the U.S. But, Hotel Smeraldo (as well as all of our hotels in Italy) was fine.
we enjoyed hotel canada , 5 min from the termini, free internet, nice breakfast buffet included in room price, and very nice clean rooms. also a nice happy hour with goodies to munch on . good luck :):)
Hotel Navona. Excellant location - easy walking distance to all the major sights. Nice rooms. Helpfull staff.
We stayed at Finestra su Roma. Maria, who speaks great English and has lived in the US, owns a four bedroom apartment. You will rent one of the bedrooms and share one of two immaculate bathrooms. There is even a shared kitchen, though a quickie continental breakfast is included at a small patisserie around the corner. The metro is right at another corner. The room we had (a triple) was quite large with a TV. Our only complaint was that it faced the piazza which was quite noisy. It is, afterall, Rome. Ask for a quiet room and you'll be quite happy to stay here. I think we paid about 90 euros. Say Hi to Maria for us!
In June, we stayed at the Casa Di' Santa Brigida on the Piazza Farnese which is near the Campo di' Fiore - a lively, vibrant square that has a daily farmer's market and entertaining evenings. It was beyond our expectations. It's a convent for the Sisters of Saint Bridget. Immaculately clean, very peaceful and comfortable. Beautifully, but simply furnished. Marble and wrought iron. Large private bath (which is important to us - we like our privacy at the end of a long day of sightseeing or preparing for the day ahead). Also, it is centrally located making it easy to go on foot all over Rome, or by bus from Largo Argentina. Admittedly expensive (isn't most of Rome??) but worth every euro!
