Lodging in Rome

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a relatively inexpensive, but also centrally located hotel/apartment in Rome? I haven't yet begun my search but would love anyone's comments about places they have stayed that worked out well for them. Thank you

hey linda
what does relatively inexpensive mean in euros? how many people, if kids involved, how many rooms, beds and what are the dates?

Thank u for your reply. There are 5 of us (2 adults & 3 teenagers), so we would need 2 hotel rooms or a 2 bedroom apartment. I guess in qualifying what I mean by inexpensive I’d equate it to a 2-3 star hotel rather than one that’s 4-5 star. We’d really just like something that’s clean & close to the main sites of Rome

Two years ago we stayed at Hotel Trastevere in the Trastevere district. It was clean and functional and served the purpose. There were no frills but since we were out all day touring, all we wanted was a place that was clean and comfortable to lay our heads at night and this was certainly it. The staff was helpful and pleasant. When returning to Rome, I will certainly stay there again.
And by the way, this restaurant is nearby and well worth the effort to find it. It is very near the river in the Trastevere district also. It is delicious and was recommended by locals. We eat there every time we are in Rome. It is Osteria La Gensola. It is only a 5 minute or so walk from the hotel.
I really like the Trastevere district as it is filled with locals and you get to see everyday life of everyday people. Not a lot of tourists.
Good luck and have lots of fun in Rome!

Don't be shy, lindah. State your hotel budget in dollars or euros. Equating it to 2 or 3 star hotels is meaningless. You could, of course, just do a search for that level of accommodation and see what the rates are.

hey linda
how hotels are rated with stars is like norma says, meaningless. may have a two star and when you are there feels five star. stars are for amenities.
look at cross-pollinate.com and shortstay-apartment.com put in your filters, 2 bed/2bath, these are for apartments. put everyone in one place, look at beds/sofa couch how many fit, pictures tell alot, A/C definitely, linens included, stairs/steps/lift carrying luggage up them, check in/check out times so no waiting. you'll have space to move around, cook or get take out meals, maybe a terrace to relax in, get two sets of keys. hope this gives you some idea, if you find something you like book it, pick of the crop so it's less stress. taking any trains book early. enjoy

Check out Aenea Superior Inn. They have rooms and apartments that might meet your needs. I stayed there with my 17 & 18 year old last summer in July. It is well located in Monti. Grocery across the street. Many restaurants nearby. Quick walk to the Colisseum.

Edited to add: They leave a basket of pastries every morning at your door so a light breakfast is included, but we had a private terrace and fridge and coffee maker including drinks and coffee provided as well. Our room slept 4 in a king bed and twin day bed with trundle. It was spacious. They have larger apartments because they showed them to us and they are lovely. Or you could get 2 smaller rooms.
