We'll be in Perugia for 4 nights in mid- October. We will not have a car. Any recent suggestions for good places to stay?
Several years ago we stayed at the Hotel Fortuna, located about 50 meters from the two connected, main piazzas. The rooms were nice, the breakfast was good, and the staff was extremely helpful. Buon viaggio,
Yes we are planning to visit Assisi by bus. I've read it is much easier to visit by bus because of the location in Assisi of the train station. Because we won't arrive in Perugia until late on day one, we figured we had only time enough to do one day trip from Perugia. Do you have other suggestions?
A few years ago we stayed at the Hotel Ercolano. It was well priced, modest, quite comfortable, with a continental breakfast typical of that class hotel. The people at the desk were friendly. Near the mini metro stop and also close to a great "deli". Sorry, my Italian fails me and the east side of Cleveland kicked in.
Just curious, are you planning to do daytrips to Umbria by bus?
Thanks to each of you for your help. Turns out we're going to visit Perugia on the next trip, but I'll keep all of your suggestions. Thanks.
Since you are staying four nights, you may want to stay in an apartment. My wife and I did that when we stayed there. We also got around the area fine on buses. Perugia is a nice town, but you can pretty much see/do everything in one full day there, IMO. I can also recommend going to Gubbio - we found it to be our favorite of the three hill-top towns we visited.
These small apartments are on my list of places to stay next time we go to Perugia. I have corresponded with one of the reviewers and they said it is as described and they would have no hesitation in returning. What attracted me in the first place was its location ie up in the centre of the old city. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g187907-d1490261-Reviews-Mini_Resort_Fontana_Maggiore-Perugia_Province_of_Perugia_Umbria.html
