Does anyone have a recommendation of where to stay in Vernazza? There are 2 couples and we would prefer not to have a lot steps. We would like our own bath room.
We haven't been yet but have made reservations here www.elisabettacarro.it. She didn't have a sea view for when we will be there but there is a rooftop terrace.
RS Italy/Cinque Terre books are FULL Of suggestions. Depends on your needs, because there is I believe a total of 1 building in Vernazza with an elevator (at Tonino Basso rooms??), and practically everything else has steps. Whether to get up to your room or through the alleys to get up to the entrance of your "hotel"using the term VERY loosely. My favorite room (by Martina Callo) has somthing like 81 steps to get to the room with the great rooftop terrace. So we plan our comings and goings with care and efficiency to eliminate unnecessary trips back up to our roomand once we get back up there, we stay for a few hours with our picnic of bread, fruit, wine and cheese. Camere Fontana Vecchia, according to RS Italy 2008 is the only place with "almost no stairs to climb". It also has no views, and is slightly uphill near the post office. It's gonna be a trade-off. Albergo Barbara on the square has fewer steps. Trattoria Gianni Franzi has rooms on various levels, but I'm sure that's no guarantee of where YOUR room would be. Both of these places have rooms with private bath, but be sure to specify because they also have rooms with shared.
thanks for the ideas.
