Lodging in Chiusi Scalo

I am looking to do a short weekend trip in Siena and Montelpuciano. I was thinking it would be convenient to get lodging near the train station in Chiusi Scalo, as it would allow me to get between the 2 cities easily. When I do searches I have trouble locating hotels here. The ones that I find are in Chiusi - the main part of that area- which is not near the train. Any suggestions for lodging here? Names of places? Is it safe for someone traveling alone to stay in this area? Katie

Google maps comes up with the following hotels very close to the station: Hotel Centrale Chiusi, Piazza Dante, 3, 53043 Chiusi(SI) Siena, Italy, +39 0578 222043; Albergo La Rosetta, Via Goffredo Mameli, 59, 53043 Chiusi Siena, Italy, +39 0578 20077; and Albergo I Longobardi, Via Leonardo da Vinci, 59, 53043 Chiusi Siena, Italy, +39 0578 20115. I don't know anything about them but, having been in that area last fall, I wouldn't think there would be any problem with safety. Actually, neither Siena nor Montepulciano is particularly easily reached by train. If I were you, I think I'd stay in either Siena or Montepulciano and take the bus to vist the other. It's an hour and a quarter bus ride, and there are no buses on Sundays.

Hi Janet. Thanks for your reply. I was looking at trying to go to the Palio, but I think I decided today after more research that it is not worth the headache. Had I planned more in advance and gotten a place in Siena. Maybe another time. So, I think I am going to just focus on staying in Montepulciano for 2 full days and enjoy the vino. If you happen to have any great tips on Monte. then I would greatly appreciate it. I am working on trying to find a hotel that doesn't break my bank since I am traveling alone. Katie

Sounds like you've made a wises decision! We stayed in an apartment the last time we were in Montepulciano; the time before stayed at Camere Bellavista. However, the Bellavista seems to be the same price as Albergo Duomo is for a single, so my advice would be to make it easy on yourself and stay at the hotel. We enjoy going to Osteria dell'Aquacheta, but it might be not as much fun as a single. You might check out "a gambe di gatto" caffe. They would take great care of you. Trattoria Diva e Maceo and Osteria del Conte are also good choices.

Hi thanks for the tips on lodging in Monte. You mentioned staying at Camere Bellavista. The Duomo hotel is not available the weekend I am planning on going. :( That was my first choice. Is Camere Bellavista a headache? I contacted the owner and they have a room available. Anything I should know about this property? Katie

Gabriella and her place have had mixed reviews. It's definitely not an upscale spot, but we really loved the great view from our room and were happy with our stay. We had reserved ahead and another couple also waiting for Gabriella to arrive had not; she was careful to first give us our choice of rooms before helping the next couple. (She does not live on site, thus it's necessary to call and have her meet you there when you arrive.)

Thanks Janet. that is helpful. I would likely have to arrive late in the evening and she may not like that. I will make sure to make her aware of my circumstance as I cannot guarantee that I will be able to get on a train any earlier than 20:00. I've stilled toyed with the idea of staying in Monte. one evening and then going to Siena the next, but could be wasting alot of time on trains and buses that way.

The Hotel Centrale Chiusi is right in the square next to the Chiusi train station. It takes one minute to walk to the hotel front entrance from the station.
