Lodging help?

Hello, I have written before about our first trip to Italy and you all were a great help! We have narrowed down our (tentative) schedule as follows:
Arrive in Venice at 11:40 am October 31st, stay 4 nights
Florence next for 4 nights
Then Sorrento for 4 nights
Finally Rome for 4 nights, leaving November 16th.
We HAVE to be in Rome the evening of Nov. 14th for a concert that we have booked.

Just yesterday, my boyfriend's Aunt told us that his family is from Ponte Buggianese by Lucca, and would like to squeeze this in where it makes sense.

We already have our plane tickets to and from the U.S. and are now looking into lodging, trains, and things to do. It will be myself, my boyfriend, 10 year old son, and my mother. We will have two adult family members joining us while in Rome.

Any suggestions/thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!! :)

Hi vintagelove
What is your budget? Have you considered looking at apartments? You can look at booking.com, vrbo, haomeaway, cross-pollinate. Also italo, trenitalia, trainline.eu for trains. which you still have that 3 month leeway to get better fares.

GO WARRIORS!!!

Ponte B is about 90 minutes from Florence. That is your closest listed destination, so a day trip from Florence to visit family would be the time to do it.

If you are planning to overnight there, then you would have take a day from some other city , unless you have the leeway to add day(s) to your trip.

Train + bus will get you there in 1H40m. If you rent a car, around 50- 1 hr. (From Florence)

We enjoyed the moderately price Hotel Balesteri in Florence.

Agree, going to Lucca would be best on a day trip. It is a bit out of the way.

I would cut Venice to three days and add a day in Rome. There is so much to see in Rome.
