Lodging-easy drive to Peretola Airport

We will be coming from Montepulciano by car and want to avoid ZTLs around Florence to make our way towards Peretola airport. Does anyone have any lodging recommendations for a 1-night stay that is an easy drive to Peretola airport in Florence for a 2:30 pm flight the next day? As it is our last night in Italy, we would love something special in the $150-$200 range. No chain hotels or "airport hotels"!

Leslie, If you want to avoid ZTL's, you could always return the car to the airport and then take a Taxi into Florence. I'd suggest staying IN Florence your last night, as it's an easy trip to the airport the next day. Your flight isn't until 14:30, so you have lots of time. Roberto would be the best one to advise on ways to avoid the ZTL areas, and hopefully he will spot this Thread. Happy travels!

First of all the airport in Florence is so close to the city, that you don't have to worry about the "easy drive". Any place is an easy drive to the airport. My suggestion however is to ditch the car as soon as you arrive in Florence and take a taxi to the airport the next day instead of driving there yourself. The reason is cost and convenience. Keeping that car the extra day will probably cost you about 60 euro in rental charges. In addition, if you want to stay in the city center, you will also have to shell out parking fees, which aren't low. If you want to keep the car and incur no hotel parking charges, you won't be inside the historical center. There are no hotels in the historical center where parking is free (if available at all). So keeping a rental car for a day when you won't need it at all at a cost of approx $100 (rental charges plus parking) is not a good use of your money. The short taxi ride from the City center to the airport is only a flat 20 euro plus one euro per bag. If you insist in wanting to keep the car in Florence, I suggest Hotel David or Hotel Villa Liberty (nearby to each other). Parking is free and an easy 20-25 min walk (or 5 min bus ride) to the historical center (bikes for rent available at villa Liberty). If you return the car to the rental office in the city center, upon arrival, I'll tell you how to avoid the ZTL if you tell me the company you are renting from.
